Kable Distribution Services

Our Goal

As a full-service distributor with over sixty years of industry experience, Kable Distribution Services distributes periodicals in almost every editorial category; from comic books to women's service, from automotive to teen, from news journals to home plans. With national news weeklies, to regional titles and special interest magazines, Kable Distribution Services meets all the circulation needs of our clients' product.

Our goal is simple: Sell the greatest number of copies at the highest efficiency of sale.  Since our founding in 1932 as a magazine distributor, we've been doing just that.


Scan-Based Trading (SBT)

Scan-based trading (SBT) has existed since 1996 when a committee formed by the Grocery Manufacturers of America initiated a pilot program with HEB Stores in Texas. Some of the participant suppliers were Coca-Cola, Nabisco, Frito-Lay and Pepsi-Cola. A recent report (from Mercer Management Consulting Group) underwritten by IPDA indicated that although this and subsequent SBT initiatives have resulted in some costsaving benefits, the major suppliers involved in the original program have not expanded their SBT relationships. Mercer also indicated that for SBT relationships to be truly effective for all parties concerned, it would require significant enhancements of both retailer and wholesaler IT systems. To date, it is Kable’s view that for the most part this investment has not occurred. Thus, any agreement to enter into such relationships will be distinct and separate from all other agreements, and shall conform to the guidelines that follow.more


The Kable Difference

Kable Distribution Services is dedicated to providing the best circulation services possible to our clients. We distribute more than 650 magazines, annuals and digests for over 250 different publishers. Our dedicated circulation staff consists of 100+ people, each one devoted to giving every title the time and effort it deserves. An extensive system of detailed marketing reports and chain call assignments help the field staff distribute their time and attention fairly and efficiently for each title.


Circulation

Field representatives are the vital link to achieving success for client publishers. Their primary tasks are to ensure that all authorized retailers are on distribution, and to expand dealer coverage while maximizing sales efficiency. All national distributors, regardless of the size of their field force, will cite the same purpose. Yet some national distributors will tell you that because of their huge sales force, they can do more work.

While this assertion sounds good, the true test of circulation success is determined by how many agencies are actually worked and the quality of performance. Kable Distribution Services, Inc. sales representatives are the most experienced in the field and produce the highest quality of work in the marketplace. During the course of the year, Kable Distribution Services, Inc. "works" more agencies than all other distributors.


Publisher Support

Publisher support begins with your assigned Account Executive. The "AE" initiates and monitors marketing and circulation activities for your titles--including follow up to make sure the job is done and objectives met. An AE has ongoing access to all sales and marketing management and makes field trips when necessary. The AE is a seasoned pro, having previous experience as either a publisher or national distributor representative.

In short, the AE works for you--acting on your behalf to achieve our collective goal of maximizing sales and minimizing returns.

Publisher support continues into Kable Distribution Services Promotion Department, which assists in the design of trade advertisements, promotional flyers, point-of-sale materials, co-op advertising sections and sales brochures.

We routinely promote your publications to our wholesale customers, their retailers and our sales and marketing staffs. We work with you and your Account Executive to make sure your story is told.


Marketing

Kable Distribution Services understands that marketing is the core of single copy sales. Our Marketing Department's sole purpose is to gain and maintain retail authorizations and service our retail universe. Kable Distribution Services has developed the most extensive and flexible marketing support system in the industry to help us achieve our collective goals.

Our marketing staff--from Vice President through Marketing Directors and Division Managers to the field sales organization--are focused on these goals. That's more than 100 marketing and sales personnel, strategically located in the U.S. and Canada, working with more than 950 retail chains and over 88,000 retail outlets to serve you.

Our system is designed specifically to recognize, isolate, define and achieve publisher information to plan and structure the thousands of annual chain calls that we make on behalf of client publishers. We can also customize each and every marketing assignment for optimum penetration.

We, as well as our client publishers, have the on-line ability to access our marketing database for a wide range of information--in any form and sequence required. And, our files are updated daily to reflect the changing dynamics of your business.


The K-NetSM System

Without going into technical terminology describing our extensive computer installation, you should know that Kable Distribution Services continues to have the most user friendly and information driven data processing systems in the industry.

In addition, Kable Distribution Services posts returns, and updates all files daily (compared to other national distributors who update their files once a week).


Accounting

Kable Distribution Services designed its accounting system with publishers in mind. We provide you with clean, comprehensive statements and a financial account executive who is fully conversant with all the financial aspects of the distribution relationship.


Retail Display Allowance

has a reputation for paying RDA claims promptly and fairly. When retail buyers authorize titles, they know they will be paid quickly for their sales. This trust allows our marketing representatives greater access to buyers and increased approvals for titles.


Transportation

Our Traffic Department provides advanced technical services like no other national distributor. We can process and transmit shipping galleys to printers and shippers via phone lines, computer to computer. Our publishers can keep their galleys open longer and still meet on-sale dates. That's Kable Distribution Services state-of-the-art technology working for you.

Our Traffic Department ships your title(s), traces shipments, obtains proof of delivery, files shortage claims, audits and pays freight bills, and verifies cover prices, UPC codes and completion notices from printers. All this and we save you money too!

Kable Distribution Services sixty plus years in the newsstand distribution business has given us the experience and savvy to predict the future of single copy sales.
